Building Resilience

18.1.18

Resilience is a key factor in protecting and promoting good mental health. This whole school programme aims to look at ten different things that can help support children to develop resilience.
The programme will run over a three year period. Each theme is introduced with a launch assembly and the key messages are followed up in class activities and at follow up assemblies. A parent and carer information guide will be provided for each theme.
How you can help:
Each theme has a ‘Talk it Over’ section to encourage you to share some of your life’s learning with your child. There is also a related ‘Family Activity’ to support learning at home.
For further information please contact the school.

Last Term we introduced the programme and had a small activity to complete at home.

This Term we will be learning the first of our Tool Kit Strategies, Keeping Connected’, which children can employ when life’s waters become a little choppy.

Children will be discussing this in class and will have a small activity to complete with you at home.

Family Sharing Activity:

We are learning about the importance of having caring relationships. We have been thinking about the special people in our life. These people are our ‘Back Up Team’.
We have learned that:
• We all need good relationships in our lives
• Relationships are important for our health and wellbeing
• It takes effort to get along with others

Early Level (P1)
• Who is in your ‘Back Up Team’? Think about the special people in your life – they could be people in your family, your friends, your teachers or even people you don’t see very often. Draw a picture of them on your Team Shirt on the reverse of this sheet.

First Level (P2-P4)
• ‘Who is in your ‘Back Up Team’? Think about the special people in your life – they could be people in your family, your friends, your teachers or even people you don’t see very often. Use drawings or photos to create a team picture for the front of your Team Shirt on the reverse of this sheet.

Second Level (P5-P7)
• Who is in your ‘Back Up Team’? Think about the special people in your life – they could be people in your family, your friends, your teachers or even people you don’t see very often. Create a Team Sheet for your ‘Back Up Team’ on the reverse of this sheet. List the qualities that make them important to you.

Please return your family sharing activity to school so you can share your ideas with your class. Some examples will be chosen to share at our Sharing Assembly.
